A TRAINEE nurse is gearing up for the Great Yorkshire Run in Sheffield to raise money for a mental health charity.

Cheniece Shaw, of Sackup Lane, Barnsley, is running on September 28 in aid of Mind, a charity which helps people with mental health problems get back to their regular lives.

The 22-year-old, who is studying to be a mental health nurse at York University, has seen the charity's work first hand through work experience placements and felt compelled to raise money for its cause.

The annual run - which follows a 10km route through the streets of Sheffield - attracts thousands of people.

Cheniece, who is running with her best friend, Amy Binney, also 22, said: "It is an essential service for people with mental health problems. Its work needs to continue so I want to raise money and awareness for such a great charity.

"Both of my parents are suffering from ongoing mental health problems and will need support over a long period of time so I feel it is necessary to ensure charities like Mind get the support they need to continue their work."
