A £2.5 million refurbishment at Barnsley Hospital has been unveiled.

The scheme - which took 44 weeks to finish - features two state-of-the-art units designed to enhance the town's emergency care.

The units are where patients are cared for and observed before they are either admitted to hospital or they are well enough to be discharged.

Diane Wake, chief executive of Barnsley Hospital, said: "We face considerable challenges with growing numbers of patients with increasingly complex needs.

"This project shows our commitment to ensuring that patients continue to receive the highest quality and safest emergency care here in Barnsley."
