A GROUP of Barnsley cyclists are preparing themselves to tackle a 108-mile trek across the Trans Pennine Trail.

Paul Shirt, 42, from Worsbrough Common, hopes to lead his team of ten in August to raise money for Royston-based charity 'Help 4 Homeless Heroes'.

Founded by Tom Wood, the charity provides accommodation to ex-service personnel who are living rough or in unsatisfactory accommodation.

Paul - whose team are all amateur cyclists - hopes their efforts will raise awareness for the local organisation.

He said: "We all just thought it'd be a great way to help their cause and it's a bonus that we're getting fit, too.

"I've done a bit in the past for other charities but I wanted to choose Help 4 Homeless Heroes this time as the work they do is absolutely great."
