WORK has started on a £100,000 skate park for the town.
The park - at Dearne Valley Country Park, Hoyle Mill - is set to be completed by Easter.
Coun Margaret Bruff, a former youth worker, has been at the forefront project. She said: "It's nice to see our efforts coming to fruition.
"Not only will young people have a skate park at last but one in which they've had a say in creating."
Funded by £100,000 Section 106 housing development money, this will be Barnsley's largest and first in-situ concrete park, and will cater for all skill levels.
Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokesperson for development, environment and culture, said: "I’m really pleased that work is now underway. I know that there are a lot of skaters and BMX riders of all ages who will be looking forward to using it."
