WORK to improve the central reservation barrier on the M1 near Barnsley will start from today.
Two sections of the steel central reservation barrier between junctions 35a near Tankersley and 36 at Birdwell will be replaced with a safer, concrete barrier.
The Highways Agency says the new concrete barriers are stronger, more robust and are unlikely to require repairs after vehicle impact.
The work is planned to be completed before March.
From February 1, lane three will be closed on each carriageway and a 50mph speed limit will be in place.
Three lanes will remain open in each direction during the day with drivers using the hard shoulder.
