THE Reds could bring in another striker before the end of the January transfer window.
German frontman Nick Proschwitz signed on loan from Hull City until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old joined Hull for £2.5million at the start of last season and helped them to promotion to the Premier League.
It's understood he was one of three strikers on Barnsley's shortlist and that one of the other two could join him this week.
Manager Danny Wilson said: "Nick's experience is something that will help us now.
"He's someone who will be able to hit the ground running. I think Nick and Chris O'Grady will be able to feed off each other quite well.
"Nick's a player that does like to score, he can get into the box well and is a good finisher."
Another Barnsley target, Billy Sharp, joined Doncaster after the Reds had agreed terms with his parent club Southampton but the striker didn't want to come to Oakwell.
As for players leaving the club, the Reds are keen to move Kelvin Etuhu on.
The most likely outcome for the central midfielder is a loan until the end of the season but he could be released or sold.
Young defender Andrai Jones is also close to moving on and League Two Morecambe have asked to take him on trial.
Wilson added: "We're looking to get a few more of the fringe players out."
