Trevor Smith, a former councillor for the area, believes he foresaw an accident happening on that stretch of road.
"The road is too straight and long," he said. "We wanted it to be one-way for it to be made safer.
"A year before the school was built we wanted to have a belisha beacon-style crossing but it never happened.
"It's 30mph on Pitt Street but nobody really sticks to it.
"Something should have been put in place there like speed bumps to slow cars down.
"It's been an accident waiting to happen for a long time."
