MAJOR roadworks will start on Dodworth Road on Sunday to develop a new right-turn lane and pedestrian island to serve the new school.

The work - which is expected to take ten weeks - will be between the junctions with Pogmoor Road and St Hilda Avenue and is for the new Horizon Community College being built on the former SR Gent site. The majority of the work will take place during the daytime, with two-way traffic maintained at all times. The right turn onto Pogmoor Road will be stopped throughout the work - and cars will instead have to continue to the M1 roundabout and return along Dodworth Road. A spokesman added: "When the final surface is laid through the Dodworth Road and Pogmoor Road junction and along Dodworth Road it will be necessary to close Dodworth Road between Town End roundabout and Pogmoor Road for approximately three nights in March (dates to be confirmed) from 8pm to 6am. A signed diversion route for through-traffic will be via Westway, Sheffield Road, Park Road and Broadway."
