A MAN wearing women's clothing, makeup and a red wig punched a couple on a train after a row about giving up a seat for an elderly lady.

The man, who got off the train at Elsecar, attacked the couple after they questioned why he had not moved his bag to let the pensioner sit down.

The couple, in their 30s, were both punched in the face and the husband was also spat at during the incident at around 3.40pm on December 20.

PC Richard Ward said: "The man is white, six feet and in his 20s. Officers are speaking to witnesses and looking for CCTV from the train as well as the station and surrounding area."

Information should be sent to British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, quoting incident number NEA/B5 of December 20, 2013.
