Police have now named the man who died from injuries after he was driven over by a vehicle on Co-Operative Street in Goldthorpe.

At around 8.25pm on Thursday (December 29),  56-year-old Peter Topping, from Goldthorpe, is believed to have been lying in the carriageway on Co-Operative Street when an unknown vehicle drove over him.

The vehicle is reported to have continued along Co-Operative Street turning right into Doncaster Road failing to stop at the scene.

Officers are renewing their appeal for anyone who may have witnessed Mr Topping lying on the floor prior to the incident, or anyone who witnessed the impact, or anybody who has seen someone acting suspiciously around their own vehicle since 8.25pm on Thursday to contact police.

Anyone who believes they were the driver or a passenger in a vehicle that struck an object on Co-Operative Street is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident 779 of 29 December 2011 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
