AN OVERGROWN patch of public land has been given a modern makeover.
Pinfold Open Space (between Shambles Street and Westgate) now has a small seating area, newly planted shrubs and improved steps.
The site is named after the pinfolds of medieval times, found mostly in the North and East and built to hold animals which had been found straying.
The damaged Hidden Barnsley plaque, one of seven located around the town centre at sites of historic interest has been replaced.
Funding for the project came from City Region Growth Point cash.
