RESIDENTS are reporting problems from across Barnsley as the strong winds and torrential rain worsens.

The Met Office has issued a formal warning for the North which says winds will continue to increase - which could affect travel conditions.

Police have already warned that motorists locally should expect delays and the Highways Agency say road users should check the weather reports before even attempting to set off.

The Highways Agency has issued an Amber Alert for high-sided vehicles, caravans and motorbikes - who, they say, are at risk of being blown over.

And now locals are reporting several incidents on our Facebook page:

* Princess Street residents are being warned to be on the look out as slates are flying from the roofs

* One resident reports being caught by a gust of wind which blew her into a car (she is uninjured.)

* Athersley North - there's reports of crumbling fences and flooding

South Yorkshire Fire Service has also issued warnings, describing the conditions locally as 'treacherous.'
