BARNSLEY Council has withdrawn its plans to sell off the site of the former Royston High School for a new development.

The decision-making cabinet were meant to discuss plans to accept an offer for the site on Midland Road for a mixed used development, comprising a food superstore, retail shops, family pub and residential dwellings this week - but the report was withdrawn for unspecified reasons.

The report sought approval to earmark £100,000 from the sale of the land to fund future specialist reports and planning application fees which will enhance the value of future schools sites due to be released for disposal.
