A CHALLENGE for students across Barnsley has been launched to inspire them to become entrepreneurs of the future.

The 'I Know I Can' Barnsley Big Challenge will see 120 teams from local schools, colleges and community groups team up with business people.

Already Jessica Goodwin and Jade Brookes from Kirk Balk won £50 for their business 'Rose and Thimble' which was presented by Dan Jarvis and Andy Chesterton (Chair of the I know I can Barnsley Big Challenge Steering Group). Their winning idea was to create handmade jewellery from Scrabble tiles and Bric-a-brac.

Other shortlisted ideas included making and selling vintage accessories, creating a virtual marketplace, mobile phone accessories, recycling items for fashion jewellery, customising clothing and making handbags created from recycled jumpers.

Dan Jarvis MP for Barnsley Central said "The I know I can Big Challenge is about helping young people in Barnsley to recognise and achieve their full potential. It is part of a long term plan to raise their aspiration."
