FIREFIGHTERS tackled two arson attacks on derelict properties in Monk Bretton on Friday morning.

The first fire started at around 3am in a derelict former pub, The Butcher’s Arms, on Judy Row. Smoke had been spotted coming from upstairs windows in the property.

Three fire engines tackled the blaze, with two teams of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entering the building to tackle the fire which had been started on the first floor.

The second fire started at around 6.30am on Burton Road in the roof space of a derelict former residential care home. The roof was well alight and one fire crew from Cudworth tackled the blaze using a hose reel.

No one was hurt in either incident, which fire cause investigators concluded were both started deliberately.
