ORGANISERS of a football day in memory of a teenager who died of cancer hope to collect around £1,800 for charity from the event.

Stacy Dyson and Ellis Lee helped arrange two matches for the second successive year following the death of Stacy's cousin, Andrew French.

Stacy said the  August 2 event, at Penistone Church FC, went well, although the attendance may have been affected by the clash with the first day of the professional football season.

"We weren't as happy with the turnout as last year but we think it was because we had to change the date," she said.

"Nevertheless the event went well and we were overwhelmed with the support and donations of the people who did attend."

More than £800 was collected for the Teenage Cancer Trust on the day, with further donations expected to take the total to around £1,800.

Andrew, 18, of Thurlstone, died of a brain tumour in 2010.
