TWO friends have set up a charity organising free weddings for terminally ill people.
A Magical Wedding Wish has been founded by Catherine Evans and Vikki Sagar and the pair organise weddings free of charge to give dying people their last chance of happiness.
They both work in the wedding industry and are using their contacts and relying on donations of cash, wedding dresses and accessories.
Catherine's mother, Diane Bean, died of bowel cancer about ten years ago aged 54, and her sister Sharon, 30, died of an underlying heart condition about five years ago.
"We're going to kick-start it in Barnsley but hopefully expand all over the county," Catherine said. "We've got the contacts and some good friends in the business doing photography and flowers and things like that.
"I've known these wedding professionals for years and I would recommend them to brides in normal circumstances.
"The response we've had has taken over my life."
The pair are in the process of writing to hospices across Yorkshire in the hope staff will inform them if they're wanted.
Vikki, 40, of Quarry Street, Cudworth, is the owner of Sparkle and Shine, on Barnsley Road, Cudworth, and has organised weddings for ill people before, but said she felt guilty taking money from them.
"It's to give happiness and excitement before something happens to them.
"As brides will know, it can be a very stressful time planning a wedding, so we want to take that stress away too."
