A VICAR has celebrated 25 years of service at a Barnsley church.
Rev David Munby, 61, has been at St George's on York Street with his wife Jill, 60, since 1988.
Their three children, Jonathan, 26, Joanna, 25, and Bethany, 22, have since left Barnsley, but grew up in the area and attended Kingstone school.
David celebrated the occasion on August 11 by hosting a barbecue for family and friends in the vicarage garden.
"When I first arrived in Barnsley, the mines had just closed and the town was still at a low ebb," David said.
"Since then, the town has become much more positive and I now have a multi-racial congregation of people from all nations.
"My vision has been to bring the churches together and break down divisions. I think we have achieved that through programs such as the street pastors and food banks.
"I have five years to go until I retire. I would like to see more of an impact of God's love upon the town and turn negative, judgemental feelings into kindness, which is the big goal."
