GRADUATES celebrated their success by parading through the town centre last Thursday - and two of the town’s most well-known famous citizens joined them.
The 2013 awards ceremonies at University Campus Barnsley was held at The Civic where more than 200 students received degrees and diplomas in more than 20 different subjects.
The morning ceremony featured 116 students who had taken courses in education and professional development plus music, humanities and media. They were led by Skelmanthorpe Band through the town.
Joining them were two local celebrities - umpiring legend Dickie Bird and fashion guru Rita Britton.
In the afternoon 99 students who had taken courses in art, design and architecture, business, computing and engineering plus human and health sciences were given their degrees and diplomas.
This was the final year in which the University Campus awards ceremonies were staged solely under the aegis of the University of Huddersfield.
From next month, Barnsley College takes over the delivery of UCB courses and responsibility for the management of the campus.
However, the University of Huddersfield will continue to partner the college and will oversee the validation and quality of the courses.
