THREE family members have appeared in court charged in connection with a crash which left a pedestrian fighting for his life.
Scott McMannis, 20, of Townend, Barnsley, is accused of aggravated vehicle taking, driving without insurance, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and perverting the course of justice.
The crash, which happened on Racecommon Road last December, saw McMannis arrested after a 50-year-old man was struck by a vehicle which failed to stop.
The collision broke nearly every bone in the man’s body which meant he had a four-month stay in hospital.
Stacey McMannis, 25, and Gary John McMannis, 48, both of Townend, Barnsley, are each charged with perverting the course of justice.
All three appeared at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court on August 2. The hearing was adjourned and the case was sent to Sheffield Crown Court. All three defendants were granted conditional bail.
The case will resume on August 16.
