SCHOOL children will be taking on a new role today - they will be stopping speeding motorists in a bid to clamp down on speeding on one of Barnsley's busiest roads.

A group of pupils from Oakhill Primary Schools Year will be helping Police deal with speeding issues on Hunningley Lane, on Tuesday morning.

Inspector Julie Mitchell said: "Drivers found exceeding the speed limit will be spoken to by the pupils who will outline the consequences. It tends to have a greater impact when coming from the mouths of babes."

It is part of a road safety training session on the Junior Warden scheme - a ten-week programme run by Police, Fire Service, Council and Berneslai Homes.
