HEARTLESS thieves stripped the tiles off the roof of a Barnsley Hospice charity shop in a break-in that caused £1,000 of damage.
The Barnsley Hospice shop at Stairfoot - which is one of the specialist furniture shops - was targeted through the night.
Thieves removed the roof tiles to gain access, jimmied open the safe and stole the contents. Although no cash was left in the building, they took two Sat Navs used by the delivery drivers and some electrical testing equipment.
It is the fourth time this year that a Hospice shop has been broken into - similar incidents have occured at Penistone, Wombwell and Blucher Street stores.
Dawn Charlesworth, retail services manager for the Hospice, said: "I know it's not just us suffering with break-ins but it is a real knock back for the volunteers who put so much time and effort into helping us.
"We just can't believe it, we are insured of course but that's not the point is it? We still have all the trauma of having to close the shop, clear up afterwards and there's never even any takings left in any shop."
