EVANS clothes shop in Barnsley town centre is to close this month to make way for a Costa Coffee.
The signs went up on the shop this week, stating that Evans will close on November 16. The planning application for the coffee shop sparked controversy when We Are Barnsley reported it back in February, as the staff who worked in Evans said they hadn't even been told their store was closing down.
Costa Coffee Ltd was given permission to open up a mixed use coffee shop in the building, with an area for external seating being considered.
A spokesman said: "The Costa in Barnsley will trade as a coffee shop on the ground floor with facilities to either take away purchases or consume them on the premises. It will incorporate a retail element with a counter containing items such as cafetières, cups, saucers, coffee beans available for retail sales."
