A CHEQUE for more than £700 was handed over to Macmillan Cancer Support by a swimmer.
Robert Blackburn, 31, of Platts Common, swam 21 miles over 21 days between April and May - the equivalent of 1,344 lengths.
Robert, who is a swimming teacher and lifeguard, swam the lengths at the Metrodome and Hoyland Leisure Centre.
He did it to raise money for his friend Dave Smith, who died from cancer last month, and successfully raised £713 in total.
His colleagues chipped in to help him by swimming a further 888 lengths to bump the total up to 2232 lengths.
Robert said: "I would just like to thank everyone involved who helped raise this much money and for the lifeguards who swam the extra lengths for me."
