ROYSTON could be joining Cudworth in its quest to provide a food bank for locals in need.

Former Barnsley councillors Howard Lavender and Bill Newman are among a group of residents wanting to provide the lifeline.

Howard said they will be attending a meeting on June 15 organised by charity The Trussell Trust to find out more information.

The trust works with churches and communities to open up food banks across the country.

Howard said they would look to operate the food bank in Royston as a satellite from another Trussell Trust food bank - with food being supplied from the main site.

The group is preparing for the impact of the welfare reforms in the next six to 12 months, he says.

"It's not that prominent as yet but the reductions in benefits and alike have only just started and things like the 'bedroom tax' have only just been imposed. They're all coming together," he said.
