A COUPLE who met at a youth club as teenagers have celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Derek and Sadie Bond said it was love at first sight when their eyes met at the Methodist chapel in Cudworth in 1942.

"Derek was the treasurer there and it was the first meeting I'd been to," Sadie said.

"He came up to me and said 'what's your name' and I told him and I blushed and he blushed and that was it."

Derek was enlisted into the army at 18 and was posted out on D Day. He was discharged in 1947 and the couple married at Cudworth Methodist Church in 1948.

They later went on to pursue careers in residential care and managed a care home in Bootle, Merseyside.

Both are keen singers and members of the male and female voice choirs at Cudworth Methodist Church.

Sadie said the secret to a long and happy marriage is 'perseverance, give and take and love'.
