A MAN blamed his misdemeanors on the 'devil', Barnsley Magistrates' Court was told.
Christopher Timothy Schauff, 28, also suggested the devil was responsible for him going in hospital, said Julie Grant, prosecuting.
She said Schauff was in Barnsley Hospital's acute medical unit and walked down a corridor.
Mrs Grant said: "He was drowsy, slurring his words and unsteady on his feet.
"He hit a nurse, Stephanie Mackay, on the jaw. She was shocked and in pain.
"A security officer, Paul Bissell, was called. Mr Schauff kicked him in the face causing reddening and swelling.
"Mr Schauff said he could not remember anything. He suffered blackouts and believed they were caused by the devil.
"He said the devil also made him go to hospital."
Schauff admitted two assaults and his case was adjourned until June 13. He was granted unconditional bail.
