POLICE officers and youth workers have teamed up to offer a series of town centre events - like bowling, crafts and even climbing - in a bid to entertain youths.

The police and the Youth Service have teamed up to provide Wednesday evening events as part of a project that has been running for the last month.

Tonight, from 6 - 9pm at Barnsley Interchange there will be free tea, coffee, hot chocolate and crafts.

Spokesman Inspector Julie Mitchell said: "More than anything, it provides a safe place for young people to meet and chat, and get advice if they want. There is tea, coffee and biscuits, and jewelllry making activities. We've had a good turn out."

On November 4 there will be free ten pin bowling on offer at the Metrodome and the Safer Neighbourhood Team will be building a climbing wall in Barnsley Interchange.

Other upcoming events include: football activity at the Metrodome (Novermber 23); tea and coffee advice session at The Core (December 14); ice-skating in the town centre (December 21)).
