POLICE have vowed to monitor a speeding hotspot after 14 vehicles were caught exceeding the limit in one afternoon.

The fastest recorded car was travelling at 47mph on the 30mph stretch of Ben Bank Road in Silkstone Common.

PC Matt Jackson, from Penistone Police Station, took part in the operation.

"It's obviously a concern with the amount of traffic and pedestrians on there and we would encourage people to abide by speed limits," he said.

"It's quite worrying people are travelling at up 47mph in the village. We will give the area some attention in the coming days and weeks."

The camera was in Silkstone Common between 1pm and 3pm on Wednesday May 8 and tickets were issued to all speeding drivers.

Offenders will be sent on a speed awareness course, fined and issued with penalty points or sent to court.
