A WOMAN was caught knelt by a grate at the side of the road apparently trying to push a purse she had stolen down it, Barnsley Magistrates' Court was told.
Leanne Waite, 35, said she had taken the purse in a break-in at the home of someone she had known for years, said Julie Grant, prosecuting.
The purse was found on her when she was searched, Mrs Grant said.
Waite, of Darfield, explained after her arrest that her mother had recently died and she was drunk.
She confessed to police that she drank two bottles of vodka a day and took cocaine.
Waite, who admitted burglary, had her case adjourned until May 30 and was granted conditional bail.
