A MAN has walked free from Barnsley Magistrates' Court after a charge of causing criminal damage to a German Shepherd called Sheeba was dropped.

Lee Wood, 40, of Darfield, also had an assault charge dropped when David Baines, prosecuting, offered no evidence at what was supposed to be the start of his trial.

Mr Baines said a prosecution witness had not turned up for the case.

He said efforts to contact the witness had failed.

Philip Howard, defending, said Wood had been in prison on remand since March 20.

Wood had denied the two allegations. He was released from custody by presiding magistrate Rev Peter Yates.
