PEOPLE living in Goldthorpe could soon be enjoying warmer, greener and cheaper-to-heat homes after £1.7million of funding was secured.

Housing and regeneration specialist Keepmoat will be working in partnership with Barnsley Council.

The energy efficiency works to be carried out are completely free of charge.

Up to 105 properties in Goldthorpe could be eligible for the improvements, which are being paid for through the government’s ECO scheme, designed to help people living in ‘hard to heat’ properties save money on their fuel bills.

Victorian terraced properties on Doncaster Road, Main Street, East Street, West Street and Lockwood Road are among those which could benefit from the free external wall insulation, loft insulation and draught proofing.

A letter from the two organisations has now been sent to all eligible homes, with residents urged to contact Keepmoat to find out if they could benefit from the improvements.

A spokesperson for Barnsley Council, said: "The council is fully supportive of this opportunity to assist in enabling some properties in Goldthorpe to benefit from this specific energy efficiency scheme.

"The scheme will significantly contribute to improving residents’ quality of home environment by providing home energy improvements that will mean warmer and more efficient homes long-term."
