A MAN who went shoplifting 48 hours after being released early from jail has been given an eight-week curfew.

Richard Barry Lowe, 41, of Worsbrough Common, took three packs of salmon worth £30 from Marks and Spencer - because he was short of money.

Rachel Baldwin, defending, said Lowe had to spend most of a grant he was given on his release on gas and electricity bills.

She said: "He was left with £6 which does not go far. An application for benefits is due to take two weeks to be processed and other people encouraged him to go shoplifting to support himself."

Lowe, who admitted shoplifting, was ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge.
