ABOUT 300 people turned up to a special general meeting to discuss the sudden closure and possible reopening of Athersley Social Working Men's Club.
There are now plans to form a new committee to run the Mansfield Road-based club following a vote by members at the meeting on Tuesday.
It also saw members of the committee resign, including secretary Dave Martin, president Trevor Smith, treasurer Len Holler, and one of the trustees.
Members plan to hold another meeting - the date of which is still to be decided - in order to officially remove the men from the committee.
The emergency meeting comes after the club closed suddenly in February amid financial difficulties, and members expressed their anger at being kept in the dark about the situation.
Many members said it was one of the best working men's clubs in the region but felt the committee was to blame for its downfall, claiming it had been 'poorly run'.
