TWO police support officers used their ingenuity to rescue a baby accidentally locked in a car near Stairfoot.

Lisa Lloyd and Alan Fowler turned up at Wombwell Lane retail park on Saturday afternoon to find a Barnsley mum in distress after accidentally locking in her five-week-old son.

The keys to the vehicle were on the front passenger seat and the woman, in her 20s, was worried because it was a sunny day and was afraid it was getting too hot inside.

She had already covered the rear window with clothing to block out the sun when the two officers arrived.

Quick-thinking Lisa ran to a nearby shop and bought some wire coat hangers, which Alan used to get into the vehicle by joining together the wire coat hangers and hooking the keys through a one inch gap in the open window.
