DERELICT land in Lundwood could be transformed if plans for a residential housing development are given the go-ahead by officials.
Vacant brownfield land on The Close, off Lund Lane, could be used for 26 houses if an application by Jamie Unsworth, of Bury-based Cornell Group Ltd, is given approval by Barnsley Council planners.
A design and access statement produced by architects on behalf of Mr Unsworth says, historically, the area was agricultural land until it was developed for housing in 1931.
That development still remains and is predominantly low-density, two-storey residential houses and flats, which are mostly Housing Association properties mixed in with 'right to buy' units.
It says houses forming 'The Close' were demolished in 2008 and the site has since become a beacon for fly-tipping.
Proposals show the new homes will be a mix of two and three bedroom houses which will have two and one parking spaces, respectively.
