A BARNSLEY nurse is to be given an award for excellence.
Lee Hough, 36, has been awarded the prestigious Queen's Institute award for excellence, service development and high quality care.
The highly sought after award is given to about 15 nurses each year for outstanding contributions to practice, service development and quality care. Staff, peers, students and patients all contributed to the recommendations for Lee, from Smithes, to receive the award.
Lee began his career in accident and emergency in Sheffield, then moving onto the Rapid Response Team in Barnsley. He now leads on the "virtual ward" service in South Elmsall, after setting up and developing this new service, and also as an advanced nurse practitioner at the surgery.
The awards ceremony will be in London next month.
