A TEENAGE singer and guitarist has made it through to the regional finals of a national music competition.

Shannon Lassu, 17, entered the TeenStar talent competition which is searching for the UK's best teen and pre-teen performers. She will be performing in a regional heat on Sunday at Memorial Hall, Sheffield City Hall.

Shannon, from Royston, who does covers and original songs, is in the running to compete for a place in the national final at The indigO2, within The O2 in London.

This will be a chance to impress guests from record labels, agencies and the entertainment industry along with judges like Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale.

Thousands of hopefuls from across the country have entered the contest run by Future Music which has developed acts such as Birdy and Hatty Keane. The overall winner gets £5,000 to help develop their music.

Shannon's mum Louise, said: "She is so gifted that as soon as she went into the studio they wanted to work with her. People are also offering to pay her to perform at various events, like weddings and in pubs."
