BARNSLEY Hospital has been praised by health watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after inspectors found it is providing high standards of patient care and support for its staff.

The CQC paid an unannounced visit to the hospital and inspected four inpatient areas: gynaecology, cardiology, the stroke unit and orthopaedics.

In addition to observing the patient care and treatment being given, the inspectors spoke to 18 members of staff, 17 patients and four visiting relatives, as well as examining patient notes.

The CQC has now published a report on the visit, finding that the hospital is fully compliant against the standards inspected as well as identifying some examples of best practice.

“Without exception, patients spoke very positively about the support, care and treatment they received,” states the report.

Liz Libiszewski, Director of Quality and Performance, said: “We are pleased with the results of this report which reflect the hard work and commitment of our staff and high standard of care of our patients.“
