POLICE in Barnsley carried out an operation to tackle serious crime in Barnsley and seized one million cigarettes and 4kg of heroin - arresting seven people.

Police seized the cigarettes, half from a house in Honeywell and half from a house in Darfield, and recovered 4kg of heroin from a house in Grimethorpe.

A 48-year-old and a 28-year-old have already been charged with conspiracy to supply heroin.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wilkie, said: "This was a very successful operation which is part of our commitment in Barnsley to target criminals in the borough who make others lives a misery."
