PROTESTERS were present outside Barnsley Town Hall as councillors set the 2013/14 budget.

They were calling for Barnsley Council to reconsider making cuts to the youth service and out-of-hours learning network for youngsters.

As councillors went up the stairs to make their way inside, the protesters waved placards and chanted.

George Arthur, one of the protesters, said: "This Tory government is making cuts that are affecting us in Barnsley and what they're doing is wrong."

"This Labour council should be standing up to it - they were elected to make things better. They're acting as rubber stampers for Eric Pickles who wants to see us ground down in the gutter."
