CABINET members have approved the disposal of two council-owned sites so that 59 affordable homes can be created.
Increasing the supply of affordable housing remains a top priority for the council, and the two additional sites have been identified at George Street in Darfield, and Sheerien Close in Athersley.
Negotiations have started with Yorkshire Housing Association, with a view to acquiring and developing the sites.
The two sites will provide 59 new affordable homes which will all be for rent.
Cllr Alan Gardiner, said: “Bringing forward these two sites will go some way towards redressing the current imbalance between the supply and demand for affordable housing which currently exists in Barnsley.”
