A PENISTONE barber has achieved a top ten position in a national hairdressing competition which was entered by thousands.

Rachel Oxley finished seventh in the Britain's Best Click 'n' Send Competition which was contested by more than 2,000 hopefuls.

The 21-year-old from Thurgoland, has worked at barbers Mane Man and beauty salon Belle Visage for two-and-a-half years.

The contest required entrants to photograph a hairstyle they created and send it to judges. Rachel was then chosen in the top 20 to attend the final at the Hilton Hotel in Birmingham.

"I was a bit nervous but it was good," she said. "You've only got so much time to get ready and there were some really good hairstyles as well."

She was awarded 79 points out 90 for her work, in the presence of award-winning celebrity hairdresser Lee Stafford, while the winner got 86.

Trevor Dixon, who owns Mane Man, said people are now asking for Rachel by name when booking appointments.

"She's done absolutely fantastic," he said. "To get in the top seven in all the country is absolutely brilliant.
