THE Thurnscoe Harmonic Male Voice Choir will perform the third of four special centenary concerts later this month.
The choir, formed in 1924 by 12 members who sang in the local chapel, have been hosting the special concerts throughout the year.
The first took part just 200 yards away from where the choir was founded in Thurnscoe and the second at Wentworth Church – but the next two promise to be huge events for the area.
The choir will perform at St Margaret’s Church in Swinton on August 31 at 7pm in a free event.
This will be followed by an event, which will be attended by the mayors of Barnsley and Rotherham, at Wentworth Woodhouse in November.
Alan Pepper, a member of the group, said: “For a choir to last for 100 years is very special and the Thurnscoe Choir is no exception winning many choral festivals and over the years performed on television, singing alongside Harry Seacombe and Vera Lynn.
“At present the choir is about 40 strong and sings in four-part harmony often for charitable causes.
“To celebrate the centenary the choir has performed in concert at Thurnscoe within 200 yards of the chapel where it was founded and at Wentworth Church.
“The next centenary concert Is at St Margaret“s Church in Swinton on August 31 at 7pm and is quite free.”
