A LUNDWOOD priest has thrown open the doors of the newly-built church hall.

St Mary Magdalene's Father Kevin Maddy is welcoming people to use the new £80,000 church hall. It replaces the old hall which was gutted by fire in 2005 - destroying its roof and interior.

The main church was also in need of repair, but now its damp and drainage problems have been cured.

''The church hall used to be the centre of village life,'' said Father Maddy. ''It was a real blow for the community when it burned down.''
