PENISTONE Church FC has received more than £12,000 funding which will help the club climb the non-league ladder.

The grant will be used for ground improvements so the first team can apply to play in the Northern Counties East League next season.

Funding - a total of £12,400 - has come from the Football Stadia Improvement Fund, which is the country’s largest provider of grants towards projects that help improve the comfort and safety of lower league football grounds.

Club secretary Dave Hampshire said: "The award will allow us to carry out some essential work on our facilities, and everyone at the club from our under-seven team through to the senior team will benefit from the improvements."
