MAYOR Dorothy Higginbottom opened the first Regional Children in Care Council meeting to be held in Barnsley.
The CiCC is made up of children and young people in care from around the region.
The monthly meetings provide an opportunity for young people from local authorities across the region to discuss a range of topics which affect their lives.
At these meetings the young people also learn how other local authorities organise their children in care services, the types of services they receive and how they can influence these services.
Cllr Higginbottom stressed the importance of such meetings. “Barnsley Council has made a pledge to all our young people in care; we must listen to your views and opinions,” she said.
