A COUNCILLOR has responded to criticism surrounding council tax and its grit bins in the Penistone area.
Steve Webber said grit bins are the responsibility of Barnsley Council, and Penistone Town Council does not decide council tax bands - although it does set a precept.
"Council tax bands are determined by the value of properties and the town council has no control over that. If you buy a house at that price, you’re going to be in that band,” said Cllr Webber.
Regarding the long-running grit bin issue, Cllr Webber said: "Penistone Town Council has no responsibility for grit bins in any part of the borough - don't blame Penistone Town Council for not gritting your pavements."
