FORECAST snow expected to hit Barnsley tomorrow and continue into the weekend has prompted the council to release an updated gritting plan.

It says tonight will be the fourth consecutive night of gritting across the borough, with lorries setting off from Penistone at 4pm and Smithies depot at 6pm.

A spokesman said: "This coverage will give the borough a head start should tomorrow’s forecasted snow arrive from midday onwards.

"At present, that snow is predicted to be heaviest in the Penistone area, which may cause disruption."

In December, the council revealed its gritting policy and clarified how residents can request a road be gritted or a grit bin be refilled.
