LOCALS who had been out for a night out in Barnsley Town Centre helped to lift a car off an injured man after an alleged assault on Peel Street.
The victim, a 20-year-old man from Rawmarsh, had been in town with his friend, 19, when they were apparently assaulted by the occupants of an Audi A4 and a Vauxhall Combo. The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.
As the Audi drove off, it collided with the 20-year-old, causing him to become trapped under the car. Locals who had been out in town flocked to help, lifting the car off him so that the ambulance crews could get to him.
A police spokesman said: "Shortly before police arrived on the scene a number of people in the town centre lifted the cars passenger side off the man so that others could pull him out from under it."
The man has fractured ribs and pelvis and head injuries and is currently being detained at Barnsley Hospital. His friend, 19, from Conisborough, had facial injuries.
Two 22-year-old men from Sheffield have been arrested for attempted murder.
Police are now trying to trace the witnesses and those who helped the man. Anyone with information can call 01142202020 quoting incident 183 of Sept 25, or Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800555111.
